Fistula (Arteriovenous AVF) Care

The fistula creation process is a surgical procedure performed to provide vascular access for dialysis patients. An arteriovenous fistula is a long-lasting vascular connection created using the patient's own blood vessels.

Before this procedure, the patient undergoes a detailed evaluation. The vascular structure is examined, and the appropriate location is determined. Fistulas are typically placed on the wrist or elbow and carefully selected to ensure sufficient blood flow.

During the surgical operation, an artery and vein are connected. This connection accelerates blood flow in the vessel, making it suitable for dialysis. The procedure is generally performed under local anesthesia, prioritizing patient comfort.

Following the fistula surgery, the healing process begins. Within the first few weeks, the vessel starts to widen and strengthen. During this period, the patient must protect the fistula site, avoid lifting heavy objects, keep the area clean, and maintain regular medical check-ups.
